New Federal Law to Prevent Sexual Abuse in Youth Sports

Girl Practicing Gymnastics - Prevent Sexual Abuse

A new law passed by Congress is aimed at preventing child sexual abuse. The Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act introduces new standards that all youth sport organizations must meet, including programs offered by local leagues, churches, schools, camps, and non-profits.

The Act introduces three new requirements:
1. Mandatory Reporting
2. Prevention Training
3. Prevention Policies

All organizations that provide services to children — including youth sports — must implement an effective safety system to protect children. MinistrySafe and Abuse Prevention Systems (APS) are recognized industry leaders regarding resources designed to prevent child sexual abuse. Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) is also a recognized industry leader regarding risk management efforts. MinistrySafe/APS and PHLY have coordinated to provide guidance for organizations seeking to better understand the new federal legislation — who is impacted, what is required, and how to comply.

APS and PHLY are hosting a webinar to help youth sport organizations understand the new federal regulations, click the link below to register:
